Green Goals for the Future: Demand Logic and Here East Working Together to Reduce Energy Consumption

- Demand Logic software has been deployed across 1 million square foot at Here East’s campus.

- Here East is working with Demand Logic to reduce carbon impact and improve energy efficiency to support sustainability objectives.

- Here East was originally built as the media hub during the 2012 Olympics and has now been redeveloped to be East London’s premier business hub.

- From initial estimates, the carbon savings will be almost 1,000 tonnes, equivalent to over 110 million smartphones being charged.

Demand Logic has announced a new partnership with Here East, East London’s leading business innovation campus, formerly known as the London 2012 media hub. Here East’s campus totals over 1 million square feet, and Demand Logic’s software will analyse thousands of data points to reduce energy consumption, resulting in cost and carbon savings. Here East’s large campus provides vast amounts of complex data which Demand Logic simplifies to drive environmental performance, which aligns with Here East’s sustainability planning to minimise their carbon consumption by 8% in the first year, whilst delivering positive social impact.

Here East was a focal point for the London 2012 Olympics, with the iconic Broadcast and Press Centres being used as a 24-hour media hub, close to the Riverbank Arena. Today, the former Broadcast Centre is home to BT Sport, Sports Interactive, Loughborough University, and University College London (UCL), amongst others. The former Press Centre includes Plexal, an innovation and co-working space, where Demand Logic is based alongside other businesses including FIIT, Scope, LC2, Quadient, and many more.

Demand Logic has identified optimisation opportunities for Here East that have the potential to deliver significant energy cost savings, as well as pinpointing maintenance needs, and extending the life of installed equipment. The team at Demand Logic is working closely with Here East to deliver enhancements to improve the overall environmental performance of the buildings, including tenant comfort and carbon reduction.

In terms of reducing carbon emissions, from the savings Demand Logic identified during the initial stages, it is estimated to be almost 1,000 tonnes. That’s equivalent to almost 147 homes' energy use for a year or 110,458,718 smartphones being charged. Commenting on the partnership, Mike Darby, Co-Founder and CEO of Demand Logic said:

“Here East has brought long-term economic growth and innovation to the East London economic community and is a hub that businesses have swarmed to since its evolution as London 2012’s media headquarters. We are not only proud to be working with Here East to help them achieve their ambitious carbon savings, but also to call it our home as a tenant. Utilising the ability to analyse thousands of data points, the team at Here East is able to benefit from data-led insight to draw conclusions about how to reduce energy consumption and carbon production, whilst developing its operational performance through more effective and efficient maintenance to the benefit of the environment, assets and users of the complex.”

Gavin Du Preez, Head of Operations, Here East added:

“Here East has been designed for disruptors and innovators and, when it comes to building management, this is no different. Environmental performance is at the centre of our operations and it is our duty to do all that we can to be the best we can be. Carbon reduction is paramount for Here East in all that we do, and our buildings have a significant role in that. We are thrilled to be working with Demand Logic to identify potential optimisation opportunities for our estate, with the benefit of our tenants and users at the forefront of the project.”

Demand Logic’s software has previously been deployed on a trial basis at the Here East campus in 2018. This resulted in identified energy cost avoidance of £64,000 and this latest software deployment is set to deliver results which are even more impressive having already identified £196,000.
