Demand Logic referenced in Parliament as a “win-win all round” solution to energy consumption

Last week, on Wednesday 12thSeptember 2018, Demand Logic was referenced in Parliament by Rebecca Pow MP for Taunton Deane as part of a call for a "Bill to require the Secretary of State to undertake a public consultation on innovative technologies and energy consumption in households and commercial properties”.

Rebecca Pow MP said:

"How often do buildings feel too hot on warm days because the heating system is not flexible and cannot be adjusted? My office in the House of Commons is a good example of that. It often gets so hot that the windows are opened and all the heat disappears outside. That is not a good way of operating, so a whole-system approach to buildings would be very helpful.

“Demand Logic technology could help cut costs for businesses and public authorities in that respect. It provides data intelligence on how a building operates, and can ensure that maintenance work is prioritised to where it is most effective. Better comfort levels should encourage us to be more productive in our work, so it is a win-win all round."

Commenting on this development, Sonny Masero, Chairman at Demand Logic said:

“It’s good to hear and see the importance of energy consumption in commercial properties reach the House of Commons, in the form of this bill. It’s high time that the Government focused on improving energy performance in commercial properties. There is a significant opportunity to reduce running costs and emissions, as well as making this workplaces more comfortable. From Rebecca Pow’s comments it sounds like Westminster is a hidden factory in itself and that performance could be improved for both the MPs and the planet. I do hope that this Bill can find momentum to make it’s way through to legislation to ensure we have more action to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. We have the innovative technologies which could give the UK a leading position in this global market with the right support.”

Conservative MP for Taunton Deane since 2015, Rebecca Pow is involved in a number of environmental committees including the Conservative Environment Network and Plastic Free Parliament, and has been voted a Green Heart Hero and Greenest New MP. She also called for the Bill to “encourage the development of innovative technologies to reduce energy consumption; and for connected purposes".

The bill was presented by Rebecca Pow on behalf of cross-party MPsIan Austin, Caroline Lucas, John Grogan, John Penrose, Julian Knight, David Warburton, Derek Thomas, Sir David Amess, James Heappey, Alex Sobel and Geraint Davies, and will be read a second time on Friday 23rdNovember.

The bill aims to gain government backing to harness “new and innovative carbon-saving technologies to lower energy consumption in our homes and commercial properties, particularly by cutting energy wastage, lowering fuel bills, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions”.

Demand Logic customers have reported 30% in energy savings and up to 100% reduction in comfort complaints to building and facilities manager in over 16 million square foot of property, and Rebecca Pow’s recognition of our impact highlights the need for this across urban areas in the UK and worldwide.
